Q + A

What is the deadline to RSVP?

We kindly request your response by 31st December, 2023. (However, prime accommodation will need to be booked much earlier as this is high season in Cape Town). We will be blessed and honoured to share this event with you all, but understand this is a considerable trip to make and may not be feasible for everyone.

Where should I stay?

21 - 25 February: We would recommend staying in Franschhoek from Wednesday 21 February - Sunday 25 February to be close to our wedding celebrations. There are some lovely accommodation options for all budgets but as it is high season, we recommend booking sooner rather than later. Please refer to the "Where to Stay" Tab for some good options or use AirBnB.

25 February: We would recommend arranging to stay in Cape Town, Camps Bay or surrounds on Sunday 25th February. There are many places to stay, either on AirBnB or at hotels. We have listed a few under the "Where to Stay" tab.

If you are planning to stay for longer (either before or after our wedding celebrations) we have created a recommended itinerary. Please see this under the "Things To Do" Tab.

Are Children Welcome?

Absolutely!

The Welcome Party: all the wine farms we visit will have big lawns with jungle gyms and games where kids can play together.

The Wedding: we will have professional childcare available to take care of your little ones so you can enjoy the evening. There is a small cottage very close to the reception area (about 20 metres) where they will be entertained after dark and able to sleep. You will be able to check in on them and pick them up from here when you are ready to go home.

The After Party: we will have some games and entertainment available to keep your little ones busy.

What do your dress codes mean?

Dressy Casual: express your personal style with a blend of sophistication and comfort. Think tasteful dresses, polished separates, and refined accessories that strike the perfect balance between elegance and relaxation. We invite you to celebrate in attire that embodies both the joy of the occasion and your unique individuality.

Bold and Chic: Think vibrant colours, contemporary patterns, and confident accessories that showcase your unique fashion flair while maintaining a touch of elegance. We're excited to see you rock your boldest and most fashionable outfits as we celebrate in a truly chic and unforgettable atmosphere.

Beachside Style: Think flowy sundresses, linen shirts, casual separates, and comfortable footwear that reflect the breezy, coastal ambiance. Let the sun, sand, and sea inspire your outfit as we come together in a laid-back and understated setting.

Shoes: Ladies, we would not recommend you wear heels to any of our venues. The grounds at the wine farms will be uneven. You would be able to wear a wedge or platform shoe.

What is the weather like in February in Cape Town?

Very warm! The average temperature in Cape Town during the month of February is 27°C degrees. The UV index is 12+ so please bring plenty of sunscreen.

Do I need a passport/visa?

If you are travelling on a British, Irish or American passport no visa is necessary (at the time of writing this - August 2023). Your passport must be valid for six months after returning from this trip (until September 2024).

Do I need travel/medical insurance?

Travel insurance is optional however it will cover lost luggage, canceled flights/delays, etc. Medical insurance is recommended however some health insurance policies will cover international travel. Check with your provider.

Will my mobile plan work in South Africa?

We would recommend checking with your service provider however, most roaming plans are expensive (about £6 a day).

You would be better off buying a local sim card and data package as soon as you arrive at the airport through Vodacom (Vodafone) or MTN. If you are landing in Cape Town International Airport you will see a Vodacom kiosk as soon as you come through the arrivals hall.

DO NOT wait to get a sim card at another location, as South Africa has strict regulations around the data you are required to provide in order to purchase a sim card. Vodacom and MTN at the airports are authorised to sell sim cards to visitors.

What are the ground transport options in Cape Town?

Uber* is your best and most cost effective option. Trains and buses are not recommended.

You can hire a car if you are planning on travelling around the Western Cape but please note, finding parking in central Cape Town can often be difficult. Make sure the accommodation you book has dedicated and secure parking.

We can refer you to an airport transfer service to get you from the airport to your accommodation. Please contact either Darragh or Caitlyn for help with this.

We will arrange buses from the wedding venue back to Franschhoek after our wedding reception.

*We recommend that you activate the PIN Verification security feature on your Uber account to ensure you get into the right car each time.

What is the best way to get to South Africa?

We would recommend flying directly to Cape Town. There are multiple flights a day operating from:

- London to Cape Town (British Airways or Virgin Atlantic)

- France to Cape Town (Air France)

- Amsterdam to Cape Town (KLM)

What currency is used in South Africa?

ZAR - South African Rand. The exchange rate does not tend to go below £1/€1 = R20.

What is the tipping policy in South Africa?

Tips/service charges are not included in your restaurant bills and most waiters rely on their tips. We recommend tipping an average of 12.5%, based on the quality of service you received.
